Taking-The-Space (Theatre Maker and Drama Workshop Provider) is based in the Glastonbury and Street areas of Somerset. It was established by theatre professional Maxine Ridout-Prime, who felt that, while there was plenty of opportunity for young people in the area to sing and dance there were very few places for them to learn acting techniques. The company's aim is to provide enjoyable, high quality, affordable drama workshops and personal tuition for all ages. As well as teaching performance skills and acting techniques the groups are designed to build confidence, promote team work, improve communication skills, encourage imagination and most importantly of all, they are lots of fun. Taking-The-space believe that it is important to create a fun and friendly atmosphere so that even the shyest of children will feel able to “Find their voice” and of course “Take their Space” There is also an emphasis on performance so that the skills and techniques learned during the classes can be put into practice. Every year the Young Actor Groups produce original pieces of theatre, which have been written especially for the young people involved, using their ideas for plot-lines and characters. These are then produced with the highest production values that budget will allow. Maxine believes that theatre should be high quality what ever the age of the cast, not just "good for kids" just good full stop. There are now three Actor groups running, Mini Actors Club, Junior Actors Club and Young Actors Club meaning that young performers can start their drama journey at six years old and continue it until they are 18 years and up. Taking-The-Space also runs an after school Drama Club in Glastonbury as well as drama enrichments sessions and  educational workshops for schools. In September they will be setting up "The Drama Social" a weekly drama club for young people aged 7 - 13 years. In 2022 Taking-The-Space became a CIC (Community Interest company) and we are very excited about the prospect of providing more drama enrichment for the whole community.
