in September Taking-The-Space is trialing a new class, aimed at young people aged 14 - 18 years. Drama Socials are non-performance-based classes. They are an opportunity for young people to come together in a friendly and supportive (technology free) environment, to make friends, play games, explore their imagination, challenge themselves, let their hair down and feel free to be their best selves.

The Drama Social

Wednesdays 5.30pm -6.30pm

Glastonbury United Reformed Church

The Drama Social is a chance for young people aged 7 - 13 years to come together in a relaxed and friendly space and play drama, improvisation and story telling games. As well as being lots of fun it will be a opportunity for them to practice their social skills and build confidence and also exercise their imaginations in the real world (and take a break from their digital one) Ideal for those kids who love drama but may not have the confidence to perform (Yet!)

&
The Play Making Courses

The Young Actor groups (Mini, Junior and Young Actors Club) run in term time through three terms. In the Summer term we concentrate on teaching the groups a variety of professional acting techniques.

During the Autumn and Spring term there is an emphasis on live performance as part of the "Taking-The-Space Play Making Course" This is a chance for young people to work together to create a performance. A part will be written for each club members, taking into consideration the experience and confidence level of that young person as well as challenging them to produce their personal best.

Everyone is welcome to join these groups, you do not need any previous experience - However please note that, it is a two term commitment and in order to maintain the high standards established by the groups, there will be some weekend rehearsals these are mandatory and should be taken into consideration before joining the group.

See below for more details about the classes including age groups, times and venues.

As part of the "Play Making Course" they will be asked to explore a theme and look at ways it could be dramatised. They will also be asked to come up with ideas for characters. These ideas will then be scripted into a short play.

Shakespeare

Taking-The-Space is a big advocate of teaching young people about Shakespeare and from time to time the Young Actor Groups may be invited to take part in a Taking-The-Space celebration of Shakespeare, a collaboration with local performers of all ages which would include performances from professional actors. In the past these have proved to be very exciting events for the young people to be part of but taking part is optional.

* please note that Taking-The-Space aims to offer a flexible and adaptable service that works to the needs of all the children who join the clubs, therefore the ages assigned to each class are a guideline and may vary according to parental and child preference or the availability of space in the more advanced classes
